Orca Inspection Service’s

Home Efficiency Resource Center

and the Home of the HOPE Report.

This web site is dedicated to home efficiency consultations, repairs and improvements. Below you will see a list of consultation services we provide. In addition, by using the buttons to the left, you can access a cohesive list of articles, web links and contractor referrals to "green" home products and services. It is our goal to make this a one-stop shop for those interested in making their homes and their lives more efficient and sustainable. If you are interested in any of our consulting services, please contact our office to discuss your home and project. We work in the greater Seattle area.

Consultation Philosophy:

This business has been created as a reaction to several problems we have experienced while conducting home inspections and remodeling our own homes:

1. America has a wealth of beautiful old homes that are inefficient and were not built to modern energy standards - the equivalent of driving a fleet of 1968 Cadillac’s.

2. It is difficult to get sound, accurate and relevant information on how to make your home more efficient. Many “experts” are simply trying to sell you their “green” product.

3. Many “green” improvements are made to homes in a random way because the entire house was never evaluated before leaping into various projects. This often results in an inefficient approach to the remodel that can: exacerbate remodel costs, damage the home, and generally cause more harm than good

4. “Green” technology is often “new” technology. New technology is inherently risky to install in homes because it has not withstood the test of time. Our experience inspecting homes over the last five years serves as an invaluable resource to help evaluate the benefits and risks of new technology and balance those features to the level of risk and innovation you are willing to take with your own home. It is our goal to assist both conservative home owners and risk-taking green fanatics to repair, remodel and retrofit their homes in a logical and efficient manner.
